Safety Guidelines & Delivery Details

Are you ready to hit the streets in your Low-Speed Electric Vehicle (LSEV)? Before you take off, it’s important to know the rules of the road and ensure you stay safe and legal. Our team at Telluride Carts will bring you all the information you need to know to make your stay in Telluride unforgettable.

Low-Speed Vehicles vs Golf Carts

First, let’s clarify the difference between a Golf Cart and a Low-Speed Electric Vehicle. Golf Carts are typically only found on Golf courses, whereas Low-Speed Electric Vehicles, also known as Street-Legal Golf Carts, are registered motor vehicles in the state of Colorado.

Every cart in the Telluride Carts fleet is an LSEV. In order to be considered a Low-Speed Electric Vehicle, Telluride Carts must have:

  • License Plate
  • Seat Belts
  • Turn Signals
  • Brake Lights
  • Reflectors
  • Headlights
  • D.O.T. Windshield
  • Mirrors

Where You Can Drive a LSEV Rental?

It’s important to remember that these vehicles can only be driven on roads with posted speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less and cannot be driven on highways like Highway 145, which posts speed limits of 45 miles per hour and greater. LSEVs are not allowed to drive on these high-speed roads.

If you rent from Telluride Carts in Telluride, you can only drive within the city limits of the Town of Telluride. You are not permitted to drive on Tomboy Road, Black Bear Pass Summit up to Bridal Veil Falls, or beyond the roundabout on the west side of town. If you rent from Telluride Carts in Mountain Village, you can only drive within the city limits of the Town of Mountain Village. You are not permitted to drive on any part of the Telluride Golf Course or Ski Resort. You are not permitted to leave the Mountain Village entrance and drive on Highway 145. If you leave the designated areas, you will be fined $500 by Telluride Carts.

Low-speed electric vehicles also cannot be driven on:

  • Sidewalks
  • Bike Paths
  • Utility Paths
  • Public Walkways
  • Nature Areas
  • River Trails
  • Golf Cart Paths

They can only be driven on roadways where you normally drive your car or truck.
